Who this policy covers

This policy applies to stackovernews.com, a newspaper directory. For privacy questions, contact NewsPaperDir at stackovernews@outlook.com. It does not cover the external newspapers and other services linked from this website.

Browsing, search and hosting information

You do not need a NewsPaperDir account to browse the directory. Newspaper searches and filters run in your browser against a downloaded directory index; there is no separate search-submission service in the site's search code. This does not prevent hosting logs or analytics from recording page visits and interactions.

The website is hosted by Hostinger. Serving and protecting a website can involve technical logs containing information such as IP addresses, request times, requested URLs, browser details and error records. Hosting and security providers process this information under their own service arrangements and policies.

Analytics, advertising and external services

Google Analytics has been removed from the current site. We do not currently load AdSense advertising or an advertising consent platform. Previously stored analytics cookies may remain in your browser until they expire or you clear them; removing the tag does not delete historical data already processed by providers. Hosting logs and the external features described below still involve technical information, so browsing is not described as anonymous.

Some directory pages request fonts from Google Fonts, which involves a connection to Google's servers and the transmission of technical request information. Translation and approximate-country detection have separate behaviours described below.

Your browser choices

Website language and automatic translation

The language selector uses the GTranslate free widget, loaded from cdn.gtranslate.net, to translate website text in your browser. Translation requests send text to the provider's translation infrastructure. Connections also reveal technical request information such as your IP address and browser details. Publisher names are excluded from translation. Machine translations can contain errors; choose English to read the original website text. GTranslate's service and Google's translation technology have their own privacy practices.

A language you select manually is saved in local storage on this browser until you clear site data. The translation provider can also store language state in your browser. When no manual choice is saved, automatic detection first checks your browser's preferred languages in the background. Only if none is supported does the browser contact api.country.is to obtain an approximate country from your IP address. This request does not include your search query, page path, account information or precise GPS location. VPNs and shared networks can make the country inaccurate, and a country's selected fallback language will not suit every resident.

The detected country code, not the returned IP address, is kept in session storage for the browsing session to avoid repeated lookups. If country detection fails or the country has no configured supported language, English is used. A manual language choice takes priority. Country.is states that it does not log requests; its infrastructure and service practices are outside our control. You can block these external services, but translation or automatic country detection may then be unavailable. Relevant provider information is available at gtranslate.io, policies.google.com/privacy and country.is.

You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings and use privacy or content-blocking controls. Google also provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers. These choices can affect third-party features and do not remove information already processed.

There is currently no site-wide cookie preference panel. This policy is a disclosure, not a consent mechanism. Before adding analytics or advertising, we must implement appropriate controls for applicable consent requirements. Serving personalized Google ads in the EEA, UK or Switzerland requires an appropriate Google-certified consent management platform. Disabling Analytics alone does not establish compliance for every external feature or jurisdiction.

Email enquiries

The contact page links to our public Outlook mailbox. Selecting an email link opens your own email application; it does not send a message automatically. If you send an email, we receive the address, message, attachments and any other information you choose to include. Your email provider and Microsoft's mail services also process the message under their respective policies.

We use enquiry information to respond, investigate listing errors and manage related correspondence. Please do not send passwords, payment details, identity documents or other sensitive information. We do not publish submitted personal details as part of a directory listing.

External publishers

Following a publisher link takes you to a separate website. That publisher may use its own cookies, analytics, advertising, subscriptions or accounts. Read its privacy policy before providing information.

Retention, service providers and international processing

Email correspondence is kept as needed to handle the enquiry and related records. Hosting logs, analytics records and provider backups follow the applicable service settings and provider retention arrangements; this policy does not promise a specific deletion period that has not been verified.

Hosting, analytics and email services may process information outside your country. Their privacy policies describe their processing and international transfer arrangements. We do not ask for payment information to browse the directory.

Privacy requests and security

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion or restriction of personal information, object to processing or complain to a data protection authority. Email us with a clear description of your request. We may need proportionate information to confirm your identity, and legal or technical limits may apply.

No website or email service can guarantee absolute security. If you believe personal information has been exposed through this site, contact us without including further sensitive details.

Changes to this policy

We will revise this page when the described practices change and update the date above. For questions, use Privacy enquiry as your email subject.
